--Armando Salguero writes about the Fins re-examining their interest in Auburn LB/DE Quintin Groves, who just recently underwent minor heart surgery to repair what doctors call Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome. Salguero then reveals that he himself has W-P-W. Doctors have said that sudden death due to heart failure affects 0.6 percent of those with W-P-W. Salguero says he hopes the Fins do their research on Groves before considering him. True to form, one of his commenters then wrote: "And I hope, Salguero, you become one of the .6 people who drop dead on the spot." Stay classy, Salguero commenters!
--Here's an insightful SI article by former NFL personnel man Mike Lombardi (no, that's not sarcasm) and how he believes Jake Long will be the pick. The main thing Parcells & Co. look for, according to his draft history, is size first, then speed. Parcells likes big dudes, no exceptions. He also thinks Chris Long is Parcells' second choice if J-Long and the Fins can't come to an agreement.
--The Fins are working out UCF RB Kevin Smith today. He led the NCAA last year with 2,567 yards and 29 touchdowns (daaaamn!). He'd be a solid back to bring in for depth given that our RBs all blew up last year and we were left at the mercies of Samkon Gado and The Leprechaun Patrick Cobbs. So, yea, even though his movies are shit, I'll take a guy who can score 29 TDs any day.
--Jay Fiedler has officially retired from the NFL and is now a Pro Beach Volleyball player. That's right. He made his debut at a $200,000 AVP event in Miami Beach yesterday. And then he lost in the first round. Perhaps his serves just fluttered in the air and landed in some sunbathing tourist's drink?
Anyway, Ethan Skolnick has a Q & A session with Jay. "I knew when I was coming in that I had some tools....I wasn't going to go out there and be Dan Marino and throw for 400 yards a game and throw 48 touchdown passes in a season. I was able to win games the way that I knew how to, with the skills that I brought to the position."
I was never a Jay Fiedler fan. And by that I mean I utterly fucking hated him. I think he totally sucked ass. At first it was the "he'll never fill Dan's shoes" syndrome. Then it was based on the fact that he totally sucked ass. My Dad bought himself a Fiedler jersey and wears it every now and then to this day just to get under my skin. My Dad's an asshole.
--Ladies and gentlemen, your first overall draft pick and future franchise cornerstone, Jake Long (on the right, blue wig). Meh...I'd hit it.*
Have a great weekend, Nation. See you Monday.
