I've always liked Lex Hilliard. Mainly because Lex is a cool-ass name. But, as it turns out, Lex Hilliard is also one bad mamma-jamma. And he's quickly become a fan favorite. The guy runs ballsout on every play. He runs at dudes, instead of away from them. He also has a penchant for hurdling at any given moment for no apparent reason whatsoever. Like it's a spasm or something. I love that shit!
But Hilliard seems to have put the Trifecta in something of a bind. Will they break with convention and keep 4 backs on the roster? Would they be willing to put him in as a special teams guy (Christ knows we need as many play-makers on special teams as we can stuff into our roster)? Or will they tell our sentimentality to go blow a penguin and give him his walking papers? Sure, he's only played against second and third team defenses. Sure, he's pretty much almost exactly everything Patrick Cobbs is. But the dude is explosive and quick. And he makes plays. And his name is Lex for fucksake! Lex!
Edgar Thompson says Lex is a nice story, but will likely not make the final cut. Ethan Skolnick puts Hilliard on the bubble and asks if Ricky should be the one to go instead. Meanwhile, in this rambling mess, the Mad Dog Jim Mandich predicts that Hilliard is a lock to make the team.
The third pre-season game is generally thought to be the final chance for players on the bubble to make their case to the coaches. Tomorrow night's game against the Bucs could determine if Weapon Lex stays or goes.
