As you guys noted in the previous posts' comments, the Miami Herald is reporting that 4th-round pick A.J. Edds is done for the year due to an ACL tear. The Iowa rookie and personal draft favorite of Sergeant Dickjoke appeared to tweak his right knee during last night's practice and was seen watching the remainder of the practice with his knee wrapped in ice. Edds was projected to be more of a situational guy, coming in on obvious passing downs and was drafted to do the types of things that Akin Ayodele lacked the speed to do last year (see: Dallas Clark's ridiculous TD against us in the Colts game). With Edds gone, this now falls on Dobbins, Dansby and Crowder. You read that right: Channing Crowder is now supposed to make plays and tackle speedier TE's running up the post as well as any RB's sitting in the middle of the defense. Channing Crowder.
Holy Sweet Jesus Baby Child of Bethlehem, save us. The only solace I can take from this is that EVERY NFL team deals with injuries during training camp to some extent. The key is how we recover from this. Let's just hope other guys can step up and take over for Edds. Also, look for the team to bring in another undrafted or younger free agent to try and fill a similar role.
Feel sorry for Edds, too, as he seemed like a good dude and a nice player for our type of defense. FACK!
Side note: it's just a matter of time before Pat White goes all 'Willie Burton' on us. Mark it down.
